Other Modalities used in Chinese Medicine:
Moxibustion
A traditional Chinese medicine therapy which consists of burning 100yr old aged mugwort (moxa) on acupuncture points. This treatment is good for people with pain and cold conditions, especially for women with dysmenorrhea, lower back or lower abdomen cold & pain.
Cupping
A localized suction applied to specific areas of the skin. The vacuum created inside the cup draws toxins and stagnant energy out of the affected area creating the open space to heal body. It improves Qi and blood circulation in meridians and muscles. It is great for many conditions including pain, and heavy or cold sensations in the joints that are limiting movement.
GuaSha
Gua Sha - scraping “sha-bruises”, a Traditional Chinese medical treatment in which the skin is scraped to produce light bruising. This treatment has been known to clear exterior pathogens. It is used in treating fevers, colds, coughs, and localized muscle stiffness especially muscle pain in the upper respiratory tract.
Infrared therapy
Simple and painless. Infrared lights are placed directly over the skin in the area of pain or injury. Energy from the light penetrates beneath the skin and is absorbed by deep tissues. It increases circulation, reduces inflammation, and promotes healing.
