What is a Yoni Steam???
The practice of Chai Yok/ Yoni Steaming is traditional and indigenous to many cultures if not all of them. It involves sitting, kneeling, or squatting over a warm pot of water which can include herbs with a skirt or blanket wrapped around the waist. This exposes the whole pelvic region to the rising steam and the herbal medicine. The steam itself improves uterine function by increasing circulation. Steam also appears to help aid the bodies natural ability to cleanse through the menstrual cycle when inhibited by using tampons, oral contraception, or other actions that may have caused the blood to flow less freely and become clotted. In this way the steam alone can help ease painful periods. This practice is so incredible for women as a way to cleanse monthly when menstruation has stopped from menopause or for other reasons. Steaming reduce a women’s susceptibility to infection by draining out impurities. And in doing so it provides a deep cleaning and ability for renewal of cellular tissues.
When we add herbs we can further direct the steam to what is needed most for an individual.
*If a woman has an IUD or is menstruating it is advised not to steam but to instead smoke. This involves burning herbs or resins and allowing the smoke to penetrate the womb.
